Atlanta is such a fun city and there is so much to do! They truly do have something for everyone.
I’ve done solo trips to Atlanta, I’ve gone down several times for concerts, and gone for various vacations. No matter what you are going down for, this list will make sure you get the most out of the trip and truly get to see everything Atlanta has to offer!
This post is all about the best things to do in Atlanta!
The Best Things to Do in Atlanta!
1. Georgia Aquarium
The Georgia Aquarium is definitely one of the best things to do in Atlanta! It is the largest aquarium in the United States and has tons of sea creatures to check out. One of the coolest things the aquarium has to offer is the Ocean Voyager exhibit. It’s 100-foot-long tunnel you can walk through and be surrounded by whale sharks, manta rays, and tons of other fish!
Pro Tip: Plan your visit early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds. You can also book special experiences like swimming with whale sharks or a behind-the-scenes tour.
2. Atlanta Botanical Garden
Whenever I’m in a new city, I love to check and see if they have a botanical garden. The Atlanta Botanical Gardens are stunning! If the weather is nice is a great place to spend some time walking around. When I was there, they had live music so I grabbed a drink and sat and listened for awhile.
Their Canopy Walk is also really cool. It’s a suspended walkway through the treetops! I also loved the Fuqua Orchid Center, which is almost like a green house full of tons so many unique plants.
Pro Tip: Visit during the holiday season for Garden Lights, Holiday Nights, a light display that transforms the garden into a winter wonderland.
3. The King Center
To learn about some of the most important moments in US history that took place in Atlanta, visit Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park. This park is in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. for being the civil rights leader he was. Some of the things to see during your visit are:
- Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birth Home
- Ebenezer Baptist Church, where you can see where Martin Luther King Jr. preached
- The International Civil Rights Walk of Fame
- The Reflecting Pool and Eternal Flame
Pro Tip: Guided tours are free but you need a reservation!
4. The High Museum of Art
If you love art and strolling through museums, The High Museum of Art is the perfect place for you! Make sure you check out their website because they do tons of events and new exhibits you may want to check out during your visit!
Pro Tip: Admission is free on the second Sunday of each month! They also do a jazz night on Fridays if you enjoy live music!
5. Walk Along the Atlanta BeltLine
The Atlanta Beltline is a 22-mile loop that has a ton of different things to do along the way. You can walk, but there are also bikes to rent if you’d like to take a little ride to check out more of the loop. There are restaurants, shops, breweries, art galleries, and various exhibits!
Ponce City Market is a popular food hall along the loop that has a great variety of shopping and food!
6. See the Braves at Truist Park
If you are a sports fan, definitely go catch a Braves game at Truist Park! They also offer several guided tours you can take of the park if you aren’t able to attend an actual game.
Outside the stadium is The Battery Atlanta – which has a ton of restaurants, bars, and live music venues. It’s a great place to grab a bite to eat before you venture into Truist Park for the game!
7. World of Coca-Cola Museum
The World of Coca-Cola Museum is such a fun and unique thing to do in Atlanta! I went one time when I was on a solo trip, and it was a blast! You learn so much about the incredible history of Coca-Cola and get to see parts of the bottling process. Oh, and make sure you get your picture with the Coca-Cola Polar Bear!
One of my favorite things in the World of Coca-Cola Museum is the tasting room! They have over 100 Coca-Cola beverages from several different countries around the world. There are some super unique flavors you’ve probably never seen before. Watch out for the Beverly though! -IYKYK
8.) See a show at Fox Theatre
Atlanta has a ton of great shows come through at The Fox Theatre. I’ve been there a couple of times in the past. I drove down to see Jason Isbell put on a concert, and I also saw the Broadway musical, Moulin Rouge, there. Of course, I always love Jason Isbell anytime I can see him live and the talent for the Broadway Musicals is insanely good!
The theatre is absolutely stunning – so if you know the dates you’re going to be in town and have a free evening check out their event schedules and see if there’s anything that looks like something you might enjoy!
9. Summit Skyride To Stone Mountain Park
If you’re feeling like getting a little outdoorsy, there is a beautiful park right outside of Atlanta called Stone Mountain Park. It’s located on top of a mountain that gives an incredible view of the Atlanta skyline.
There are tons of things to do – You can take a ride on the Summit Skyride (a high-speed Swiss cable car), you can hike, you can check out their historic square, and during the summer months, you can get tickets for their Summer Light Show.
10. Piedmont Park
Right in the middle of the city of Atlanta, you can find Piedmont Park. It’s a perfect place to rent a bike and take a stroll if the weather is nice! They do tons of events so check and see if there are any festivals or farmers markets going on while you’re in town!
11. Eat!!
Atlanta is known to have tons of incredible food, so make sure you plan to stop at some of the great restaurants they are known for.
One place I absolutely loved when I visited for my solo trip was The Garden Room. Not only were the food and drinks amazing, but it was also VERY Instagram-worthy. There are greenery and beautiful flowers everywhere you look. It’s pretty expensive, but if you’re looking for a nice dinner this place is perfect! Just make sure you make a reservation!
If you’re looking for a more relaxed restaurant, I really loved The Nook the last time I was in town. Their drinks are incredible, but the true star of the show was the Shrimp and Grits Stuffed Burger. I highly recommend trying it if you go! Sooooo good!
