Best Places for a Summer Vacation in the US
🌴 1. Maui

If you want tropical without leaving the country, Maui is it.
Seriously, Hawaii as a whole is the best place to go if you want to feel like you left the country, but didn’t. It feels like a whole world within itself.
My first time going to Hawaii, I went to Oahu, but if you’re looking for a less touristy, more laid-back vibe, I’m voting Maui for you!

Summer in Hawaii brings warm ocean water, incredible snorkeling conditions, and some of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen. It’s perfect for honeymoon vibes, luxury travelers, or anyone craving that “I live by the ocean now” energy.
I literally dream of selling everything I own and moving to Hawaii at least once a week.
What to do:
- Drive the Road to Hana
- Snorkel at Molokini Crater
- Watch sunrise at Haleakalā
- Relax at Wailea Beach
Perfect for: Couples, luxury trips, bucket-list travelers.
🏖️ 2. Charleston

Charleston in the summer is charming, colorful, and coastal. If you asked me to pick the cutest towns in the US, Charleston is always making my list.
You get beach days at Folly or Isle of Palms, historic walks downtown, and some of the best food in the South. It’s romantic, aesthetic, and incredibly photogenic. I feel like Charleston checks so many boxes for a diverse summer trip! Relaxing, yet a million things to do.
What to do:
- Walk Rainbow Row
- Spend a day at Folly Beach
- Book a sunset harbor cruise (here’s my favorite one!)
- Try a rooftop bar downtown (My favorite is Rosemary Rose Lounge!)
Perfect for: Girls’ trips, romantic getaways, and food lovers (you know I love my food!!).
🌲 3. Jackson Hole

If you’re more of a mountains > beaches kind of person, Jackson Hole is stunning in the summer. And tbh, I don’t hear nearly enough people talk about it!
Wildflowers will be in bloom, hiking trails are fully open, and nearby Grand Teton National Park looks literally unreal. It’s adventurous but can still upscale if you want it to be.
What to do:
- Explore Grand Teton National Park
- Go whitewater rafting or do a float
- Ride the Aerial Tram
- Wander the town square
- Go horseback riding
Perfect for: Outdoorsy travelers, couples, road trippers.
🚗 Don’t Forget a Rental Car
Many of these destinations (especially national parks and coastal towns) require a car to explore properly.

🌊 4. San Diego

San Diego has perfect summer weather. Truly. (Okay, to be honest, I think their weather ALL year round is far superior, but Summer is phenomenal!)
It’s laid-back but still fun, with beach culture, rooftop bars, and incredible tacos. You can surf in the morning and dress up for dinner at night. For me, it’s the perfect mix. When I’m on vacation, I want to do things I can’t do back home – but also want to be able to get dressed up for some killer dinners in the evening.
What to do:
- Explore La Jolla Cove
- Watch the sunset at Sunset Cliffs
- Bike the Pacific Beach boardwalk
- Visit Coronado Island
Perfect for: Friend trips, West Coast lovers, beach + city mix.
💡 Pro Travel Tip:
Always compare hotel prices across platforms — sometimes Expedia has package deals, sometimes Booking has better cancellation policies.

🌄 5. Glacier National Park

If you want jaw-dropping scenery, Glacier in the summer feels like stepping into a postcard.
Y’all know I’m always here for a good photo op, and this national park never disappoints.
This is peak season because the snow has melted, the trails are open, and the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road is fully accessible.
What to do:
- Drive Going-to-the-Sun Road
- Hike to Hidden Lake
- Kayak on Lake McDonald
- Spot wildlife (from a safe distance!)
Perfect for: Road trips, nature lovers, bucket-list adventurers.
🏝️ 6. Cape Cod

Cape Cod is classic New England summer. Like – I couldn’t make this list without it!
Think hydrangeas everywhere, fresh seafood (my favorite!!!!), bike rides by the water, and charming coastal towns.
What to do:
- Visit iconic lighthouses
- Bike the Cape Cod Rail Trail
- Spend the day in Provincetown
- Eat lobster rolls by the harbor (my mouth is watering just thinking about them! Check out Fisherman’s View for great food with great views!)
Perfect for: Coastal aesthetic lovers, family vacations, romantic escapes.
🎢 7. Orlando

If summer nostalgia is your thing, Orlando brings the fun.
Yes, it’s warm — but resort pools, water parks, and late-night fireworks make it magical.
If you’re into theme parks, of course, you can’t go wrong with days at Disney World or Universal.
Even if you don’t want to buy the tickets, both theme parks have cute little areas with tons of restaurants, activities, and events right outside. One time, I was on a flight to Orlando to play a show, and a girl was literally flying down to hang at Disney Springs just for the day because flights were so cheap.
What to do:
- Spend the day at the parks
- Book a resort with an epic pool (use resort pass to book pools at hotels you aren’t staying at!)
- Cool off at a water park
Perfect for: Families, friend trips, and theme park lovers.
🌅 8. Seattle
Seattle in the summer is wildly underrated in my opinion.
Long daylight hours, comfortable temperatures, and mountain views everywhere make this the best time to visit. It can be dreary at times, but it has so much to offer! This is why I think Summertime is the best time to visit – the weather is typically so much better.
What to do:
- Explore Pike Place Market
- Take a ferry ride
- Visit Mount Rainier National Park
- Catch sunset from a rooftop bar (I recommend Altitude Sky Lounge for some amazing views!
Perfect for: City explorers, coffee lovers, outdoorsy-but-chill travelers.
How to Choose the Right Summer Destination for You
Not every summer trip has to look the same. Here are some questions I ask myself to find my best fit:
- Do I want beach or mountains?
- Relaxing or adventurous? (I always perfer a little bit of a mix!)
- Luxury or budget-friendly?
- Road trip or fly somewhere?
You truly can’t go wrong — summer travel is about soaking in that light, freedom, and “main character” energy. We love to see it 🙂
Final Thoughts
The United States has an incredible range of summer destinations — from tropical beaches to rugged national parks to charming coastal towns.
Whether you’re planning months in advance or booking something spontaneous, these destinations are some of the best places to travel in the US during the summertime and always top my list when I’m thinking of places to go in the summertime.
Now I have to ask…
Are you booking the beach or the mountains this summer? I wanna live vicareously through you! Tell me all about it 🙂
