Do you need some good solo date ideas? Whether you’re trying to plan your fun and free single’s Valentine’s Day, or you need to treat yourself to a couple of date nights, I’ll give you all the best ideas of things to do! Event if it’s your first ever solo date.
You may be asking what’s the point of a solo date? I’m a big fan of self love and personal growth, no matter the time of year. Sometimes you need to treat yourself and boost your mental health a little bit. Valentine’s Day isn’t just about love with your boyfriend or husband. It’s about love with friends, family, and the love you have for yourself.
If you’re spending this Valentine’s Day single, I hope you take the time to show yourself or remind yourself just how much you love YOU! And you can do just that with a great solo date idea.
When I was single I did sooooo many things alone and always had the best time doing it. I know it can be scary but taking a trip or taking yourself out to dinner is truly one of the best feelings – even if it does take some getting used to. But if that’s not your style – no worries. I’ve included some great things you can do in the comfort of your home too! So here are some of my favourite solo date ideas to have a great time.
This post is all about the best solo date ideas!
Best Solo Date Ideas!
1.) Take a Solo Trip for the Day to a Nearby Town

The best thing about taking a day trip is that you can make it pretty inexpensive (since you don’t need a hotel room!) but still get to see a new place!
I live in Nashville and I’ve driven down and back from places like Gatlinburg, Chattanooga, or Memphis in a day. And I still felt like I had plenty of time to do a lot of fun activities for the whole day. Google cities or towns around three hours or less from you and find a place that looks like you can do some cool exploring.

Also, keep your eyes out for low airfares. I’ve done day trips this way as well. If you can find a good flight and leave early in the morning and come back late at night, you can open up your options of places to visit even more! I’ve found some cheap flights with other airlines, but I’ve also seen prices as low as $13 to go down to Orlando for the day. I met a girl one time when I was flying to Orlando who had the day off so she grabbed the tickets and spent the day down in Disney Springs. It’s worth looking into just in case you get lucky and find some great prices!
I like to go in with a pretty solid plan of what I want to do if it’s just a day trip so I can make sure I get in as much as possible and don’t waste time searching for the next thing to do.
2.) Take a Cooking Class
Cooking classes are so much fun, a great way to learn a new recipe, and a great way to make some new friends! No matter where you live there are probably cooking classes somewhere around you. If it’s you’re first solo date, this is the perfect way to make sure you have a lot of fun and maybe learn a new skill or create a new hobby!
3.) Have a Spa Day

One of my favorite ways to show myself some love is to have a spa day. If there’s a spa around you love or have been wanting to try, treat yourself for a day! Get a massage or a facial and take some time to relax and care for your body.
If having a full spa day is a little too expensive right now for you, no worries! Do an at-home spa day! Pinterest and YouTube are FULL of recipes for anything from facials to hair masks to body scrubs you can make at home with items you probably already have. So even if you’re on a budget, you can pamper yourself a bit!
4.) Spend Some Quality Time With Friends
Got some other single friends? Throw a Galentine’s Day! Or even just a party with all single friends – no matter the gender! If you need something to do to fill your Valentine’s Day, I guarantee there are plenty of other people you know who may be feeling lonely or looking for something to do. Have a get-together at the house or go out and do some kind of group activity. It’s a good time to spread love with friends too.
I had a friend once who threw a party that was for everyone! She was married but she had a friend group that had couples in it and singles in it and wanted to include everyone. It was a great way for everyone to have a good time and not make it all about couples or even all about being single. The possibilities are endless!
5.) Have Some Alone Time With A Good Book

I read occasionally, but not super often. When I was younger I hated to read but as I’ve gotten older I’ve started to enjoy it more and more. I tend to get pretty busy so often times I end up reading just when I’m on vacation, and even then it’s pretty common that I opt for a self-help book of some sort.
If you struggle to carve out time to read a good book, maybe set the day aside to read something you maybe normally wouldn’t or wouldn’t have time to. A good relaxing night with a good book is so good for the soul.
6.) Listen to Live Music

As a lover of music, of course, I had to add listening to live music to the list! This one is probably one that is scary and takes you out of your comfort zone for most – but trust me it’s worth trying out! You may just love it.
I play music in Nashville at some of the bars on Broadway and I meet people ALL the time that are by themselves. The great thing about live music is people are usually so friendly. It’s one of those things that you can make new friends if you want to, but if you want to keep to yourself and just watch the show you have that option too. You don’t have to feel awkward being there alone.
You can go to a little bar with casual music or buy tickets at a bigger club or concert venue. I’ve gone to plenty of shows by myself and it’s always been so much fun!
7.) Have a Movie Night – In Theatres or By Yourself!
I have so many friends who have fallen in love with going to the movie theatre by themselves. They honestly have even grown to prefer going to the movies alone.
If you don’t like the idea of going to a movie theatre without a group or +1, no worries! Have a movie night at your own home. If you go the at-home route, maybe try to find ways to make it extra special! Make some popcorn, really set up a cozy atmosphere in the living room or bedroom with blankets and pillows, light some candles, have a glass of wine… go the extra mile for yourself! Spending time on something just for you is a great opportunity to show yourself some love.
8.) Try a New Restaurant

If you know me you know there’s nothing I love more than a fun new restaurant. And guess what? It’s so much fun to go alone! I know sometimes people can find it intimidating to eat somewhere for the first time alone, but once you’ve done it you’ll want to do it time and time again!
If you want to meet new people, sitting at the bar is always a great way to do just that. I like sitting at the bar if the restaurant has one because I find whenever I’m alone I always have great conversations with people. But if that’s not your style get a table for one and spend some good quality time with yourself eating some good quality food.
If you have a favorite kind of food do a Google search for places around you. Personally I love oysters more than anything, so I just searched for oysters near me pretty often. But you could search for new restaurants, cute restaurants, or the most popular restaurants – whatever you’d like to try!
10.) Go To An Art Gallery

Whenever I’m traveling solo I always look for museums, a botanical garden, or art galleries around. These are always a great way to fill your time and learn new things or get to admire beautiful scenery or art. If you need a good solo date idea, I would highly recommend seeing if there are any of those around that you could explore for the day.
11.) Take Yourself on a Shopping Spree
If you’ve got a little cash on hand, take yourself shopping! Back when I was working a lot and practically had no bills because I was in school this was my favorite thing to do. On certain days off I would go to a mall and just walk around. I would bring headphones and listen to music or a podcast and just buy myself whatever I wanted. Of course, everyone has a different budget, but if you can make this work try it out! Maybe even take yourself for a thrifting spree if you want to keep it on the low-spending end!
